The Chicago Blackhawks visit the PNC Arena tonight at 6:30 CST to face the Carolina Hurricanes in hopes of building on last night’s 3-2 win in Nashville.
Scott Darling gets the start tonight, who posts a 10-3-2 record on the year, with a .923 SV% and 2.35 GAA.
Cam Ward is the home team’s expected starter, and goaltending has been a major concern for Carolina thus far. Ward carries a 12-9-6 record, along with a .917 SV% and 2.27 GAA.
Returning to the Blackhawks lineup is Brian Campbell, who, before sitting through last night’s game in the press box, had played 423 consecutive games. Michal Kempny remains in the lineup after posting a solid effort on the blue line last night. Marian Hossa remains out of the lineup with an undisclosed injury.
The Hawks look to gain momentum heading into the new year when they take on St. Louis at Busch Stadium for this year’s Winter Classic.
Look for familiar faces in Carolina’s lineup tonight, such as Joakim Nordstrom, Viktor Stalberg, and Teuvo Tervavainen. Brian Bickell, who is currently battling MS, remains on injured reserve in hopes of returning to the lineup towards the end of the season or next year.
With strong goaltending and smart play, Chicago should be able to hold off Carolina’s possession-based offense and carry momentum into the weekend.
