There are rumbles going around that The Fire might be the best team in Chicago. This is no longer debatable, Chicago is red and white. With 34 points in 17 games, Chicago remain second in the league only one point behind Toronto FC.
This is the best The Fire have looked in many years and the recent success brings many fun statistical talking points. Chicago have now gone 10 games in all competitions unbeaten. Chicago have only given up two goals in their last eight matches! Shoutout to the most underrated defender in the league, Johan Kappelhof. Nemanja Nikolic is leading the league with 14 goals but David Accam is starting to create some interlockerroom competition for the leagues goal scoring award. David is now third in the golden boot race with ten goals of his own. The stats go on and on but the same point remains, this is Chicago’s best sports team and the locker room knows it!
“Sure we want to make the playoffs but we want to win Open Cup, and we want to win MLS Cup, and we want to compete for the supporter shield. Now is that realistic to compete for all three? Why not? Your know, why not us?”- Dax McCarty
The confidence is clearly high in the locker room. With a few sell out crowds, you can start to see the city getting behind the team.
-Saturday was David Accam’s first professional hat trick
-David dodged transfer rumor questions but still seems open to staying or leaving with two Chicago contract options for the next two seasons coming up.
-Dax McCarty and David Accam will be departing for international duty. (USA play Ghana on July 1st)
